Menopause Hair Loss Treatment

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can cause significant hair thinning. AURA by Lara in Chelmsford offers targeted treatments to preserve density and support healthier hair through this transition.

Why does menopause cause hair thinning?

During menopause, oestrogen and progesterone levels decline significantly. These hormones play a key role in maintaining the hair growth cycle. As they decrease, hair follicles can become weaker, produce thinner strands, and spend less time in the active growth phase.

At the same time, the relative influence of androgens (male hormones present in all women) increases. This can cause follicle miniaturisation — where hairs become progressively finer and shorter with each growth cycle.

The result is often diffuse thinning across the crown and parting, reduced volume, and a change in hair texture that many women find distressing.

When should I start treatment?

Hair thinning during menopause is progressive — it rarely improves on its own without intervention. The earlier you start supportive treatment, the more hair you can preserve.

If you're noticing:

• Wider parting or more visible scalp • Thinner ponytail or less volume overall • Hair feeling finer or more fragile • Increased shedding in the shower or on pillows

...then now is the right time to act. Preserving the hair you have is always easier than trying to regrow hair that's already been lost.

How we treat menopausal hair thinning

At AURA by Lara, we take a targeted approach to menopausal hair thinning:

Exosome Hair Restoration delivers concentrated growth factors directly to the scalp via microneedling. These cell-signalling molecules instruct weakened follicles to re-enter the active growth phase.

Scalp Microneedling with peptides stimulates collagen production and blood flow, creating a healthier scalp environment for hair regrowth.

Both treatments work with your body's natural processes — supporting hair from the inside out rather than masking the problem.

Is HRT enough for hair thinning?

Hormone replacement therapy can help stabilise hormone levels and slow further thinning for some women. However, HRT alone often isn't enough to reverse visible hair loss or restore density.

Our treatments complement HRT by directly stimulating the scalp and hair follicles. Many of our menopausal clients combine HRT with regular scalp treatments at AURA for the best overall results.

If you're not on HRT, or choose not to be, our treatments still work effectively as a standalone approach.
